The Telford Park School Catchup Premium Information

Year 7 literacy and numeracy catch-up premium

The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium provides schools with an additional £500 for each year 7 pupil who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of KS2. Funding for the 2015 to 2016 financial year has been allocated to schools based on the number of eligible pupils listed in autumn 2015 census returns and the 2015 KS2 assessments. For The Telford Park School in 2012-13 this was for £10500 for 21 students. For 2013-14 this was £12000 for 24 students. For 2014-15 this was £7000 for 14 students. Based on the KS2 data of the year 7 pupils joining the Academy in 2015-16 our funding will be £4000 for 8 students.

We assess the needs of the individual pupils in our academy and decide on the best way to use the funding.

We select programmes and approaches which have either been proved to be effective or are showing early promise.

We have employed additional time from a specialist teacher to ensure that reading recovery and literacy and numeracy is improved for these students who do not make Level 4 on entry.

We were allocated £7000 for PCP in 2014-2015 this equates to 28 students.

Effective use of funding to support catch-up included:

• Individual tuition (reading)      in addition to classroom teaching

• Intensive small-group      tuition –  SENCo and TA team

• Homework clubs and social      group support for vulnerable learners

• Investment in better transfer      and transition arrangements from primary schools – time for SENCo and      Transfer Lead to visit all schools

• Paired reading and reading      recovery (including EASIE)

• Reduction in class sizes in      English and Maths to target reading and numeracy support (evidence based)      – split groups

• Additional TA time in      targeted classes to focus on PCP students

• Breakfast club for students      with attendance and behaviour problems

• Predicted Students in Year 7 (2015-2016) =25 students based on KS2 data – already identified and receiving targeted intervention

• Corrective and Accelerated Reader programme.

Pupils are closely monitored in their progress throughout their time at the School and their reading ages are tested on a regular basis.
