Curriculum Intent

The PSHE and SRE curriculum at The Telford Park School are broad and rich curriculums which aim to support the future success of all individuals, with a focus on supporting those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Since September 2020 the PSHE and SRE programmes have been coherently planned and well-sequenced to ensure the personal development of pupils through the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage life’s challenges and make the most of life’s opportunities. The Curriculum has been carefully sequenced so that students encounter age-appropriate concepts and progressively more challenging content the older they become. Curriculum materials are selected so that they are accessible to all students including those with SEND.  Safeguarding to preventing impairment of pupils mental and physical health and development is paramount to our curriculum intent equipping all pupils for some of the most complex decisions they will have to make. The Telford Park School has leaders who support PSHE and SRE education, with an understanding of its value and role in children and young people’s lives, as well as knowing what best practice looks like in order to encourage it.

Our curriculum approach is proactive as pupils are taught to understand what constitutes a healthy relationship both online and offline; how to recognise risks and know where to go for help when they need it. The SRE and PSHE Curriculum is planned and sequenced to breed mutual care, respect and sensitivity to others. The curriculum is well resourced and meets statutory requirements. Lesson material is relevant to the context of the school, the local community and also the wider global context.  For example, pupils are taught about the risks associated with criminal and sexual exploitation, County Lines, domestic abuse, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, substance misuse, radicalisation and extremism, and are made aware of the support available to them.

Below you can find a programme of study that details the lesson sequence for the different year groups.

We are currently working on designing a platform to share all the teaching resources with parents and carers.
