Drama at Telford Park School is built on performance in front of an audience. Pupils take a brief, make something from it with other people, and stand up and deliver it, which is a nerve very few subjects exercise.
Techniques are rehearsed on their own before they are carried into a scene, because acting, remembering lines and holding a character all at once is too much when a skill is new. Every session picks up from the staging agreed the week before, so the performance is built up rather than rebuilt weekly.
The course runs on real briefs and real deadlines, with pupils building material, taking a director's notes and judging honestly how the finished piece landed. What they take away is not only the show itself: it is the ability to be given a note, accept it, and do the thing differently the next time.
