Year 9 GCSE Citizenship Studies Launch

We are pleased to announce that our Year 9 pupils have now started studying a full GCSE in Citizenship Studies.

Pupils will be following AQA GCSE Citizenship Studies, specification code 8100, with examinations due to take place in the summer 2027 cycle.

This is an exciting opportunity for pupils to complete their first GCSE in Year 9. The course will help pupils develop a strong understanding of democracy, law, rights, responsibilities, British society, the media, politics and active citizenship.

Studying GCSE Citizenship in Year 9 will also give pupils valuable experience of preparing for a full GCSE qualification. Pupils will learn how to use an exam specification, revise key knowledge, practise examination questions and develop the study habits needed for future GCSE success.

The aim is to help pupils build confidence, develop ambition and gain early experience of the GCSE process before they move into their final GCSE years. With strong attendance, effort and support from home, pupils have the opportunity to secure a strong GCSE pass early and approach Year 11 with greater confidence.

Parents and carers can support pupils by encouraging excellent attendance, checking equipment and organisation, supporting homework and revision, and discussing current affairs, law, rights and democracy at home.

We are very excited about this opportunity and look forward to supporting pupils through their first GCSE journey.
