History at Telford Park School is the subject where pupils learn to argue from evidence. We want them to leave able to ask where a claim came from, whose voice is missing, and whether the story they have been told holds up.
Each year follows a clear line through time, so that new events land on top of ones pupils already hold. Lessons open with recall of the story so far, new content arrives in short chunks, and every unit ends in extended writing.
Pupils meet the African kingdoms and the Norman conquest in Year 7, slavery, empire and the Great War in Year 8, and Nazi Germany and the Holocaust in Year 9. At GCSE the course turns to the Elizabethans, crime and punishment across 750 years, and the making of America. The habit underneath it all, weighing evidence before believing it, is worth more than any single date.
