Computer Science at Telford Park School looks under the bonnet. Pupils learn what a computer is actually doing when it runs a program, and they write code that has to work rather than code that only looks right.
New ideas arrive as worked examples that pupils read and complete before writing anything from scratch, because a blank screen teaches a beginner very little. Definitions are drilled from the first week, since this course rewards precise wording.
Pupils study processors, computational thinking, programming, memory and networks in Year 10, then data representation, logic, system software, the impact of technology and security in Year 11. They finish able to explain what happens between pressing a key and seeing a result, which is the foundation of every technical career that follows.
