Travel and Tourism at Telford Park School opens up one of the largest industries in the world. Pupils learn who travels and why, how the business behind a holiday fits together, and how to plan a trip for somebody whose tastes are nothing like their own.

Customer types, destinations and the shape of the industry are taught before pupils plan anything, because planning a product while still learning the vocabulary produces confident nonsense. Material from the autumn is then required again in the summer assignment, which is what makes it stick.

Pupils study customers and destinations, how the business behind a trip fits together and copes with change, what tourism does to host communities, and how a product is planned, costed and promoted. They finish with a habit that any employer recognises: working to somebody else's brief and justifying every decision in it.
